Divvy works by opening a small grid that which allows you to assign how much real estate you want certain windows to occupy. You drag over the squares to select the amount of space you want an application to occupy and the windows on your screen then instantly snap into place. You can customize Divvy with global shortcuts which is the most interesting new edition.
Using a recording macro, you can define exactly how you want windows to Divvy-up, record it, then define a key to use to trigger the action. Divvy takes a while to learn but when you do, you'll find it adds a new and welcome dimension to windows management in OS X.
